FRESH2010-CALL FOR ENTRY

Calling all FULL TIME STUDENT (grade school, high school, and college) photographer’s to submit artwork for our first ALL student exhibition FRESH2o10! This show will include some of the best work being created by the St. Louis Student Photographers. The finalists are selected by a blind jury and the top 50 pieces will be displayed at Studio Altius during the month of July 2010. A photo book will also be made showing off the finalists plus several other standout images. The entry fee is only $5 and you may enter as many times in as many categories as you wish, however, you must submit a new entry fee for every piece entered.

The Categories ARE:

ABSTRACT (sometimes it is better if you don’t know what it is..)

ARCHITECTURE (man-made structures)

DIGITAL ART (Artwork created digitally based on one or more images)

LANDSCAPE (forests, mountain, plains, etc..)

NATURE (plants, animals, insects, etc..)

PORTRAIT (people images)

STILL LIFE (it isn’t moving…)

TRAVEL (images that allow us to visit without going there)

So make those submissions and do it quick! Submission deadline is June 1st, 2010! Show us what makes your work FRESH!

Cirque du Cheveux: Locks of Love Fundraising Photoshoot

Cirque du Cheveux translates into Circus of Hair and that is exactly what will be going on at Studio Altius on June 5th, 2010! Come join us and bring the kids for a day of haircutting and photographing by some of the St. Louis area’s top stylists and photographers in a circus themed setting. We are transforming the studio to make it look like a Circus and we are going to be doing free haircuts and no sitting fee photo shoots to all of those willing to donate at least 10 inches of their hair to children in need. We will be doing onsite printing of 4×6 ($5) and 5×7 ($8) prints. All hair and print donations will be given to Locks of Love. Wow…the schedule is loaded here at Studio Altius and we are excited about what is coming up at Studio Altius. The St. Louis Photographers Showcase is going to be BIG, make sure to check it out! If you want to support Locks of Love, check out our Cirque du Cheveux. Students, have a look at FRESH 2010, it is an all student photography show, very much like our annual SEEN show except exclusive to students.

ST. LOUIS PHOTOGRAPHERS SHOWCASE
The Showcase is a little bit of self-promotion, a little bit of March Madness tournament action, a lot of great photography, a whole lotta fun, and the greatest game to hit the St. Louis photography community since…ummm…forever! We are going to have several stylists giving free haircuts for donations to Locks of Love, circus performers providing entertainment, and we will be doing fun photoshoots of the fresh coifs. Proceeds from prints sales go to Locks of Love. So, if you have long hair that you would like to donate to Locks of Love, then contact us to reserve a spot! If you are a photographer and would like to volunteer for this event, let us know your interest. DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS JUNE 1, 2010.

Studio Altius is inviting full-time student photographers to submit artwork for FRESH 2010, a photography show of some of the best work being created by St. Louis-area student photographers. The finalists are selected by a blind jury. The top 50 pieces will be displayed in the FRESH 2010 show at Studio Altius during the month of July. Come spend a relaxed evening at Studio Altius filled with social networking, photography discussion, and delightful beverages. This event is open to all levels of photographers. Come get connected with other photographers in town, learn about various topics in photography, bring some new images to show off, hey…even bring old equipment you are looking to unload, whatever floats your boat! Admission is $5 or a 6-pack of beer or a bottle of wine or five dollar’s worth of snacks/soda.

This month’s feature coincides with the Maplewood ArtsWalk, the topic will be an fine art photography Q&A, portfolio review, and discussion Studio Altius staff and photography professor Russ Rosener (St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley).
